        The paper explores a famous controversy between Anselmo and Gaunilo, that happened in the XI century, about the possibility of prove God's existence from the understanding of the signified notion of God's name. To fulfill this aimed task, we perform an analysis of Anselmo's and Gaunilo's writing about this controversy: Proslogion and Liber Apologeticus by Anselmo and Liber Pro Insipiente by Gaunilo. In this research, we exam two versions of the so-called "ontological argument" whose author is Anselmo, so as Gaunilo critics of Anselmo's argument, specially that one expressed in that known as lost island counter argument.
        O artigo investiga a famosa polêmica, ocorrida no século XI, entre Anselmo e Gaunilo, em torno da possibilidade de se provar a existência de Deus a partir do entendimento da noção significada pelo nome "Deus". Para cumprir tal tarefa, efetua-se uma análise dos escritos de Anselmo e Gaunilo que constituíram a polêmica: Proslogion e Liber Apologeticus de Anselmo, e Liber Pro Insipiente de Gaunilo. No estudo dessas três obras, examinamos as duas versões do, assim chamado, "argumento ontológico" de Anselmo, assim como as críticas de Gaunilo ao argumento de Anselmo, especialmente a crítica expressa no, assim chamado, contraargumento da ilha perdida.
