A simple but significant example of this can be seen with the phrase: "that Lyons is of the kingdom of France and the first archbishop seat of the French Kingdom" ["que Lyons est du royaume de France et li premiers sieges d'archevesque qui sont el roiaume de France"]. Dans un contexte (seconde moitié de 1297) de propagande effrénée des officiers français en faveur du rattachement de Lyon, évêché impérial, à la royauté capétienne, la comparaison d'un court mémoire anonyme en latin des Archives nationales avec sa version en français révèle en quoi peut consister parfois la « traduction » : abréger, simplifier, diffuser plus largement l'argumentaire royal par l'intermédiaire de ses serviteurs locaux.
