Sumario:Subjects affected by primary Sjögren Syndrome (pSS) have lower scores in each dimension of the SF-36 questionnaire, in particular the Role Physical function (RP) and there is a need for targeted interventions in this area. The purpose of this article is to assess validity and accuracy of the SF-36 questionnaire in detecting the need for rehabilitation in pSS population. A sample of 54 pSS subjects were contacted and asked if they needed rehabilitation for conditions related to pSS. The sample was divided into a rehabilitation needing group (46%) and a not needing group (54%). SF-36 was administered too. Structural validity was calculated by Cronbach's α and Explorative Factor Analysis, diagnostic accuracy was evaluated by plotting Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curves, calculating Area Under the curve values (AUC), sensitivity and specificity. Among the SF-36 dimensions, the Physical Functioning (PF) section resulted the most valid and accurate (α = 0.90; AUC = 0.79) in assessing the need for rehabilitation in pSS subjects, with a two-factor structure and good accuracy (75%), followed by General Health (GH) (AUC = 0.75). A cut-off point ≤70 in PF section and ≤22 in GH identifies pSS subjects who could need and benefit of a rehabilitation program from who does not with a sensitivity of 81% and a specificity of 71%.
