        In an atmosphere significantly more open to the one before women had access to books, there appeared in March 1806 the Biblioteca Selecta de las Damas. Antonio Marqués y Espejo played an important role in it; we think it was he who translated many of the texts that appeared in it. While only thirteen volumes were published, it had aspired to much more, according to the prospectus of the work. Perhaps it was economic difficulties that shortened the project and kept the editorial initiative from achieving the transcendental relevance to which it aspired in Spanish letters.
        En un ambiente bastante más proclive que en tiempos anteriores a que las mujeres tuvieran acceso a los libros, apareció en marzo de 1806 la Biblioteca Selecta de las Damas; en ella tuvo parte fundamental Antonio Marqués y Espejo, que creemos que fue quien llevó a cabo la traducción de los textos que la conforman. Aunque únicamente se publicaron trece tomos de dicha colección, sus expectativas iban bastante más allá, según dejaba plasmado el prospecto de la obra. Posiblemente dificultades de índole económica truncaron tal proyecto e impidieron que esa iniciativa editorial ocupara un puesto de trascendental relevancia en el panorama cultural español.
