CASO CLÍNICO: TRATAMIENTO PERCUTÁNEO DE LA INSUFICIENCIA MITRAL CON DISPOSITIVO MITRACLIP®. A PROPÓSITO DE UN CASO.

Mitral regurgitation is the most common valvular disease in the United States and the second valvular heart disease requiring surgery in Europe. Its prevalence increases with age, hence an increase in this pathology is expected accompanying the aging of the population. Although surgery is the treatm...

Mitral regurgitation is the most common valvular disease in the United States and the second valvular heart disease requiring surgery in Europe. Its prevalence increases with age, hence an increase in this pathology is expected accompanying the aging of the population. Although surgery is the treatment of choice, many people are rejected due to their age or to the presence of comorbidities. The MitraClip® device appears as a therapeutic option for these patients. We present the case of a patient to whom a MitraClip® device was successfully implanted. Nursing assessment by Marjory Gordon's functional patterns, assessment of the quality of life with the aid of the EQ-5D questionnaire, and a nursing care plan according to the NANDA, NOC and NIC taxonomies focused on the intra-operative period, wherein the diagnoses fear, risk of intra-operative injury and risk of skin integrity impairment were detected, were performed, and further follow-up at six months revealed an improvement in the health perception-management, activity-exercise and sleep-rest patterns, as well as in the perception of the quality of life. Following the care plan implementation, regarding the diagnosis of fear, the patient reported he had been sufficiently informed and that he was more relaxed. With regard to the diagnoses of risk of intra-operative injury and risk of skin integrity impairment, the patient remained hemodynamically stable during the procedure, and once it was up, no signs of tissue damage were found. Marjory Gordon's functional patterns are a suitable nursing tool for patient's assessment before the procedure and during follow-up.
