| Sumario: | Researcher Jerry Mandel, by way of a technical criticism of one portion of the author's findings, attempts to question the theoretical implication of the entire study. Whether Mandel has succeeded in casting doubt on the author's article "Racial Prejudice and Personality Scales: An Alternative Approach," published in the October 1962 issue of the journal "Social Forces" will depend on the validity and implications of a statistical criticism and on whether his own data effectively challenge the cogency of the earlier presentation. In this article the author looks first at the statistical issues, next at certain errors and omissions in his paper, and finally at questions of a theoretical nature. There was the clearly stated hypothesis, which Mandel quotes, asserting that, since the associations between prejudice are a function of their coherence in the culture, then to control for a non-causal factor would have little or no effect on the AN-AS relationship. Mandel is looking for help from the same esoteric theory which he went to so much trouble to combat.
