Sumario:Given the pervasiveness of digital media in our everyday lives, new parents may use smartphones and televisions around their children without realizing the repercussions of doing so. Social scientists have created the term "technoference" to describe the interference of technology in relationships, and it has negative consequences for infants and young children, including impaired emotional wellbeing, poor behavior, delayed language development, and an increase in accidental injuries. This article provides childbirth educators with knowledge of the current, though limited, research on digitally distracted parenting as well as recommendations for setting healthy screen time habits and suggestions for tech-free family activities.
