Although it seems logical to think that, in this context, the information systems mediated by technology (SI / IT) would have a strategic character, to the extent that they facilitate the analysis and processing of information. There is evidence from literature and practice that there is still a way to go in relation, to develop a harmonious link between SI / IT and strategy. This article investigated the degree of importance that information systems have in formulating the strategy in the case of the Colombian Universities that make up the State University System (SUE), based on the statements presented in their action plans. Because all of this, the importance of the link between information systems and strategy was exposed, based on the literature. Subsequently, this relationship was checked in the action plans of the 32 Universities that make up the SUE, as well as the role of SI / IT in the structure of each organization. Finally, the results of the analysis of the development plans of the selected universities were presented. Tomar decisiones que afectaran el curso de las organizaciones, es una competencia exigente y determinante en el contexto competitivo en el que se desarrollan los procesos de gestión. Aunque pareciera lógico pensar que, en este contexto, los sistemas de información mediados por tecnología (SI/TI) tendrían un carácter estratégico, en la medida que facilitan el análisis y procesamiento de la información. Existe evidencia desde la literatura y la práctica que aún falta camino que recorrer en relación, a desarrollar un vínculo armonioso entre los SI/TI y la estrategia. Este artículo indagó el grado de importancia que tienen los sistemas de información en la formulación de la estrategia en el caso de las Universidades colombianas que conforman el Sistema Universitario Estatal (SUE), a partir de las declaraciones presentadas en sus planes de acción. Para ello se expuso la importancia del vínculo entre los sistemas de información y la estrategia, a partir de la literatura. Posteriormente, se revisó esta relación en los planes de acción de las 32 Universidades que conforman el SUE, así como el rol de SI / TI en la estructura de cada organización.
