ab: Publishers this week worked to secure better terms to supply books to supermarkets through Entertainment UK, following the collapse of Cork International. Publishers said that the deal would prove more beneficial for suppliers. Publishers said they would take a tougher stance to encourage supermarkets gradually to reduce consumer discounting. Big quantities of the biggest June titles, including Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination (Picador), Gazza: My Story (Headline) and Blow Fly (Time Warner), have now been supplied to Entertainment UK for distribution. Orders for July have not yet been placed with publishers, and suppliers hope to get new terms agreements signed before they start to be placed next week.
