| Sumario: | Nearly 250 store managers, head office staff, authors and publishers gathered for Waterstone's conference awards dinner at the Hilton Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Author Alexander McCall Smith, author of The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (Abacus), took the Waterstone's Author of the Year prize. It was the author's third such award, following accolades at the British Book Awards and the BA Conference. The Bookseller of the Year award went to Laura Barlow of the Lancaster branch, while Joanna Lumley presented Cheryl Owen of London's Piccadilly branch with the Branch Manager of the Year prize.
