| Sumario: | The purpose of the article is to highlight the need to introduce the academic status of classical guitar in Ukraine. This goal is realized in such tasks as analysis of stages of development of guitar performance, outline of the specifics of the links of contemporary education in the artistic direction, the allocation of factors that confirm the ability to give the classical guitar in Ukraine the aforementioned status. The scientific methodology involves the use of the historical method to determine the stages of development of guitar art. A comparative approach is applied when distinguishing between folk and professional tools. An analytical approach is taken in the analysis of the normative legal framework of Ukraine in the field of art, culture and education. Conclusions. The practice of guitarist professional training is mainly aimed at the separation of academic guitar among other «folk instruments». The state of development of modern domestic guitar performances is such that it allows us to talk about not only the possibility but the urgent need to give the classical guitar an academic status. At the moment, there are many changes in the educational process, such a transformation is one that responds to time requests. The final recognition of classical guitar in Ukraine as an academic instrument will not only provide the basis for its further promotion and popularization, but will also be a step towards restoring the traditions of Western European guitar performances in the domestic space.
