The correspondence between these two poets, in addition to documenting their admiration for one another and their political disagreements, reveals their distinct theologies of language and theories of translation. While Maragall approaches translation as a means to self-recognition that reinforces a sacred linguistic diversity, Unamuno views it as a process of defamiliarization and purification that aspires to form a single, transfigured language. These ideas are worked out in letters, poems, articles, essays and public address. The persistence and proliferation of floral games across Spain in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century becomes a particularly telling backdrop against which to examine each poet's understanding of an Iberian 'pentecostal tongue'. En este artículo se analiza la presencia de Pentecostés, como metáfora y modelo para el multilingüismo ibérico en la escritura de Joan Maragall y Miguel de Unamuno. La correspondencia entre estos dos poetas no solo evidencia su admiración mutua y sus desencuentros políticos, sino también ilumina sus diversas teologías de lenguaje y teorías de traducción. Mientras Maragall se aproxima a la traducción como un medio hacia el auto-reconocimiento que refuerza una diversidad lingüística para él sagrada, Unamuno la ve como un proceso desfamiliarizante y purificante que aspira a la formación de una sola lengua transfigurada. Estas ideas se plasman en cartas, poemas, artículos, ensayos y discursos públicos.
