Current information on this subject makes it advisable to include it in the curricula of health related careers both for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Until now, such inclusion has not been systematically enforced. Most errors are predictable and their elimination or diminution depend on their recognition and to implementation of strategies towards change. The School of Medicine Curriculum at the National University of Rosario (Argentina) does not include formal contents related with medical errors and patient safety, but offers the option to attend Elective Subjects. On the basis of this regulation we projected a course on "Medical Error" with a teaching-learning strategy that allowed students to acquire information and reflect on practices about recognizing conditions potentially deriving in medical error, and how to generate a safer health system. Specific objectives of knowledge, abilities and attitudes (Table I) and contents (Table II) were developed through conferences and groups of discussion. The students made observations, informed and discussed in groups why do errors happen in medical practice. Each student also elaborated a personal Last Report which had to be presented in a Seminar. During the development of the Course many factors were evaluated that could potentially facilitate or prevent the process; also other factors were considered, whose incorporation could improve future modules. The systematic and controlled application of the proposed strategy could allow students to obtain knowledge and skills sufficient to approach the problem of patient safety in Primary Health Attention. Incorporation of these issues to the undergraduate Curriculum would be relevant in the formation of future health professionals. El objetivo de este trabajo es comunicar y evaluar logros y dificultades de una experiencia inicial en la enseñanzaaprendizaje del error en medicina, una causa de alta morbi-mortalidad e impacto en la atención de la salud. Informes importantes sobre el tema aconsejan su enseñanza en el grado y el postgrado de las carreras ligadas a la salud, sin que hasta el presente haya ocurrido sistemáticamente. La mayoría de los errores son previsibles y su eliminación o disminución dependen de reconocerlos y elaborar estrategias de cambio. El Plan de Estudios de Medicina de nuestra Facultad no incluye contenidos formales sobre el tema, pero sí prevé la oferta de Asignaturas Electivas. En este marco se proyectó el curso "Error en Medicina" con el objetivo de aproximar a los alumnos del Cuarto año de la Carrera a una metodología de trabajo que garantice condiciones de seguridad en la atención de la salud. Planteados los objetivos específicos, los contenidos se desarrollaron en conferencias y en grupos de discusión. Los estudiantes realizaron observaciones en la práctica e informaron las mismas para su análisis grupal. Cada alumno elaboró un Informe Final defendiéndolo en un Seminario. Durante el desarrollo del Curso se evaluaron factores que facilitaron u obstaculizaron el proceso y otros cuya incorporación contribuiría a perfeccionar futuras programaciones.
