| Sumario: | Building study Manchester-based stephenson STUDIO has combined well-judgedmaterials, technical expertise and bespoke detailing tocreate a solid and confident new rehearsal facility forthe city's famous Hallé orchestra Stephenson STUDIO won an RIBAcompetition to design The Oglesby Centreat Hallé St Peter's, a contemporary extensionto the deconsecrated Grade II-listedSt Peter's Church in Ancoats, Manchester.The extension's plinth of hand-made bricksupports a first-floor primary rehearsalspace, expressed as a weathering steel boxwith articulated fins. The primary rehearsal space compriseda floating slab on acoustic isolators setabove the first-floor composite floor slab.The erection sequence required detailedconsideration, as the inner structurewas firstly fully erected and suspendedtemporarily from the primary steel outerbox roof steel.
