Based on documented examples -Xàtiva, Sogorb, Valencia, Ciutat de Mallorca- and the preserved ceramic tiles and plates, we analyze this aspect of Valencian tilework. Les ciutats començaren a retolar amb taulells els noms dels carrers i dels edificis públics, i a numerar les cases, en compliment de la Cèdula reial de 1769 promulgada per Carles III. En aquest article estudiem l'evolució de la retolació urbana al llarg dels segles XVIII i XIX.
