The artist's life was full of losses, fears and contradictions; he struggled with himself and with his mental illness for most of his life. Having studied the history of Edvard Munch's life and creative path, we make an attempt to investigate his mental disorders and the influence they have had on his art. A review of available scientific sources has been made, information on the main stages of life and creative work of the artist has been systematized and briefly presented.
