| Sumario: | The article provides a study of a brief extract from the History by Georgios Pachymeres. The passage describes the siege of Bagdad by the Mongols and the killing of the last 'Abbāsid Caliph and shows the relations between Mongols, Seljuks and Byzantines. The article starts with the translation of the passage and then continues with a detailed commentary with a philological and socio- historic focus. Pachymeres' text is also discussed in conjunction with other sources, both of western and eastern origin. |
