| Sumario: | This article focuses on primary school correlates of secondary school achievement, and presents a study in this regard. This study is an investigation of the relationship between third grade final marks, achievement test scores, and subsequent achievement in elementary and secondary school. The importance of this study lies in the fact that if academic success or failure were predictable on the basic of certain cognitive correlates early in the school career, diagnostic, remedial, and preventive measures would be possible to introduce. The study was focused on recorded cognitive aspects of the student's achievement record in the third, sixth, ninth, and twelfth grade in school. The article concludes that an examination of the data revealed that both final marks and achievement test scores in the third grade are predictive of subsequent scholastic performance. The prevention of failure demands that these low marks and scores be looked upon as symptomatic of learning problems and as likely precursors of academic failures.
