Biopharmaceutical companies of all sizes have sought additional contract manufacturing capacity to free internal capacity, expedite process development and large-scale manufacture, and forge partnerships to secure secondary sources in their drug supply chains, according to Kim. That is at least true for large biopharmaceutical companies, but small and emerging biotech companies typically rely on the manufacturing capacity, expertise, and flexibility of CDMOs to bring their candidates to market.
