        Tales are texts based on the characteristic features of nations. They provide clues about the economic, sociocultural, and political issues of their related societies. That's why, for maintaining cultural memory it is of utmost importance to collect, investigate and interpret such clues. For this very reason, various methods can be used. One of these is V. Propp's "Structural Analysis" method. This method is used for analysing structural elements that form a tale. It aims to determine basic moves- called 'functions'- of the tale, form a schema and create a common structural frame for every tale. In this current study, within the scope of the structural analysis method, we aimed to investigate the tale "Mehmed-Eşkıya" compiled by Pertev Naili Boratav. The study consisted of two sections. In the first section, related literature on Propp's method was provided and in the second section, the tale "Mehmed-Eşkıya" was investigated through the structural analysis method developed by V. Propp.
        Masallar, milletlerin karakteristik özelliklerini barındıran anlatım esasına dayalı metinlerdir. Ait olduğu toplumun ekonomik, sosyo-kültürel, siyasi konuları hakkında ipuçları saklamaktadır. Bu ipuçlarını ortaya çıkararak kültürel belleğin devamını sağlamak için derlenmesi, incelenmesi ve değerlendirilmesi gerekmektedir. Bu bağlamda çeşitli yöntemler uygulanmaktadır. Bu yöntemlerden birisi de V. Propp'un "Yapısal Anlatı Çözümleme" yöntemidir. Söz konusu yöntem; masalı oluşturan yapı elementlerine yönelik olup masaldaki fonksiyon adı verilen temel hareketleri tespit etmek ve bu amaçla masalın şemasını çıkarmak, bütün masallar için genel bir yapı iskeletine ulaşmayı hedefler. Biz de bu yöntem çerçevesinde Pertev Naili Boratav'ın derlediği "Mehmed-Eşkıya" masalını incelemeye çalıştık. İki bölümden oluşan çalışmanın birinci bölümünde Propp metodu hakkında bilgi verilecek, ikinci kısımda ise "Mehmed- Eşkıya" adlı masal V. Propp'un geliştirmiş olduğu yapısal çözümleme yöntemine göre incelenecektir.
