Students in various fields of health care must gain basic knowledge of the disparities between races, including the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. In addition to the associated causes and preventions, complex relationships between poor health and social circumstances must be approached. To encourage students in all fields of health care to have a greater impact in helping alleviate this issue, cultural competence should be part of healthcare program curricula.
