Sumario:Imke Girßmann has published a study on the monuments for freedom and unity and for the homosexuals persecuted during the National Socialism in Berlin-Mitte. She examines the negotiations and inscriptions of these places of remembrance and refers to various sources, especially text and image documents from the planning and advertising phases of the projects. Girßmann criticizes that the impetus, debate, and discourse are dominated by men and highlights the tension between the ideal of (national) unity and today's pluralistic society. She shows that the monument for the homosexuals persecuted during the National Socialism is a sign against exclusion, while the monument for freedom and unity represents a staging of a strong and unified nation. The intellectual history in terms of Zeitgeist research could have highlighted the discrepancy between the scientific perception of public state affairs and the bourgeois atmosphere. This is mentioned in the commemorative publication for the retirement of the naval historian Michael Salewski. The publication lists of the historian are also mentioned.
