ab: The present paper aims at sketching out the portrait of P. Nigidius Figulus as a grammarian, which emerges from the Attic Nights by Aulus Gellius. Therefore, all esays and passages, in which Gellius gives an account of Nigidius’ linguistic opinions or quotes his Grammatical Notes, are analyzed and commented. Another field of interest is the way Gellius himself perceives and describes the figure of Nigidius. In this context all Gellius’ opinions on Nigidius’ grammatical and semasiological analyses, etymological speculations, phonetic rules and orthographic advices are taking into consideration.
