| Sumario: | The aim of the paper is to summarize in brief two main hypotheses on etymology of Latin word vinum ‘wine’. First explanation reads vinum as a Wanderwort, thus as a borrowing, while the second defines it as a part of inherited lexicon. The article compares both explanations and gives them some more arguments based on their semantic features. In my opinion it is not possible to answer, which one is correct, when using a method of internal reconstruction (structural). This is why the text ends inconcluded, leaving place for addenda given by extra-linguistic material. |
