Ideas are usually based on practical issues of daily living related to possible functional or cognitive decline due to ageing or a chronic disorder such as dementia. CONTENT The education gained via master classes or other training in Gerontechnology has raised the awareness for inclusive practice of those researchers, while others still have a traditional approach. The Gerontechnology approach includes the message that we shouldn't confuse illness with the process of ageing. Ageing can develop without illness and being ill doesn't mean being unhealthy. STRUCTURE Helianthe Kort, will introduce the symposium and discuss the view of positive health from gerontechnological perspectives as a basic attitude to involve older people and as a frame-work for more individualized technological innovations. Bas Steunenberg will elaborate on this. He will share the experience and knowledge gained in the AAL-MedGUIDE project. In this project, persons with dementia were actively involved as end-users from the first start of the conceptualization of a medication adherence platform until the realization of this platform. Paula Costa Castro will take us to Brazil, where she has worked on apps for note-taking, fall risk screening, motivation for physical activity, coordination of care, and communication with older people based on co-design. She will focus on Time Matters studies and present three studies showing a path for co-design with three groups of end-users, formal caregivers, family members, and older persons with dementia. Using methods of literature mapping, case studies, interviews, and focus groups, the Brazilian findings will be presented leading to a new concept for a product to enhance communication between people with dementia and their carers through digital storytelling and augmented paper. Rens Brankaert will describe co-design methods to involve people with dementia and their carers in the development of 'warm technology' that is focused on quality of life and inclusion exemplified by the use of media and sound in context. He will share pitfalls and success factors of field studies. To end Maribel Pino will share the lessons learned from 10 years at the Broca Liv-ing lab in how to involve older adults via co-design and participatory design. CONCLUSION The symposium will have an interactive character by inviting the audience to share their ideas, experience, pitfall, and success factors.
