It addresses the concept of genocide, its evolution, and the main discussions raised by scholars from different research areas. Although this process is contemporary and ongoing, the guidelines are proposed to open the academic discussion for understanding the role of the international community in these processes from a geopolitical perspective. It is a challenge in the research and educational field to promote the defense of human rights. Este artículo identifica los principales conflictos violentos que acontecen en la actualidad y desarrolla el caso de la minoría étnica rohingya perseguida y expulsada en Myanmar. Se aborda el concepto de genocidio, su evolución y las principales discusiones planteadas por académicos de diferentes áreas de investigación. Si bien este proceso es contemporáneo y está en curso, se plantean lineamientos que posibilitan abrir la discusión académica para comprender el rol de la comunidad internacional ante estos procesos desde la perspectiva geopolítica.
