However, there are some limitations to the use of adaptive equipment in current practice, including the high cost and low availability. This study examined the effectiveness of using 3D printing as a tool to develop assistive devices for clients with physical disabilities to increase their independence in their daily lives. Aim: The aim of this study was to demonstrate the effectiveness of 3D-printed assistive devices in increasing an individual's level of independence during daily occupations. Methods: A quasi-experimental, post-test design was used during this study. The functional independence measure (FIM) scale is an observation-based rating scale that measures the patient's performance during daily tasks such as self-care. The data was managed and analyzed via a paired t-test using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) program version 25 to produce an unbiased result. Results: The results of the study demonstrated the statistical significance of using adaptive equipment, with a p-value < 0.001. The study demonstrated a significant difference in cost for 3D-printed adaptive equipment, with prices that ranged between $0.25 and $1.00, versus prefabricated equipment with prices that ranged between $7.50 and $17.50. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the effectiveness and efficiency of 3D-printed adaptive equipment when used with individuals with physical disabilities of the upper and/or lower extremity. 3D-printed adaptive equipment was shown to be more cost-effective when compared to prefabricated equipment, and easily accessible to the user. pubtype: Academic Journal doctype: Article src: R language: English refInfo: copyright: @attributes: flag: N holdings: @attributes: islocal: N |
