| Sumario: | The article focuses on Thomsian Heritage in the establishment of Folklore Society. It was more than thirty years after folklorist W.J. Thoms's letter to the Athenaum before a "FolkLore Society" was inaugurated, but as soon as it began to be mooted, Thoms was quickly on the scene to take credit for the invention of the word "folk-lore," implicitly laying out his claim to shape the emerging study. In the year before the formation of the Folklore Society, Thoms had been victorious in practical matters such as the cost of subscribing to the Society and the location of its headquarters. |
