| Sumario: | Convexity has been in use for management of leakages in stomal therapy nursing for over 30 years. Over time, many different types and variations of convexity have been manufactured to address the problematic stoma and peristomal skin, from very light, soft convexity to much deeper and firmer styles. The wide choice of convexity can make it difficult to choose the correct product, but the Association of Stoma Care Nurses UK (ASCNUK) has sought to address this by providing a guideline for stoma care nurses to follow. Other researchers have sought to define the different types and characteristics of convexity to enable greater comparison and assist with product choice. Whilst soft convexity is promoted as being the softer, more flexible companion to the firm convexity, some can also be a lot deeper than their firmer counterparts. This is what was discovered in the course of the treatment of a gentleman who presented with a non-healing pressure ulcer.
