Sumario:The article explores how science can be transformed through the use of advanced cyberinfrastructure (CI), describing the National Science Foundation's (NSF) vision for science and engineering in the 21st century. The authors describe how CI enabled research that dramatically accelerated efforts to respond to the novel coronavirus disease in 2019. Various disruptive applications for the technology are also described including high-fidelity modeling, online data processing and novel data-centric applications.
