Summary:The article reports that Sweden has introduced a comprehensive system to test the ergonomic work environment created by computer screens and keyboards. While the computerization of the workplace is proceeding irreversibly and at an accelerating rate, urgent global issues involving visual display units (VDUs) remain complex and controversial. The Swedish test system has been developed following an international congress, which addressed widespread fears of the health effects of the radiation emitted by the machines.
