Today, rapid changes and developments in health care and technology, the increase in evidence-based practices, and multidimensional care that includes technological knowledge and applications necessitate critical thinking in nursing. Critical thinking in nursing is defined as the ability to collect, interpret, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information by considering the stages of the nursing process. Nurses in healthcare settings often face complex situations that require them to think critically. Critical thinking skills in nursing are accepted as some of the basic skills required for quality care practices. Providing nursing students with critical thinking skills is important in terms of training nurses who can provide quality care. Critical thinking skills can be gained and developed through education. However, the complex nature of critical thinking skills makes it difficult to acquire this skill through a single teaching method and necessitates the use of different and new approaches. In this direction, various teaching methods have been discussed to provide students with critical thinking skills in nursing education and to develop these skills. Eleştirel düşünme, bir problem hakkında karar vermeden önce, problemin iyi yorumlanması için var olan bilgilerin gözden geçirilip değerlendirilmesi sürecini içeren bir düşünme biçimidir. Günümüzde sağlık hizmetindeki ve teknolojideki hızlı değişiklikler ve gelişmeler, kanıta dayalı uygulamaların artması, teknolojik bilgi ve uygulamaları içeren çok boyutlu bakım hemşirelikte eleştirel düşünmeyi zorunlu kılmıştır. Hemşirelikte eleştirel düşünme, hemşirelik sürecinin aşamalarını göz önüne alarak bilgiyi toplayabilme, yorumlayabilme, analiz, sentez edebilme ve değerlendirebilme yeteneği olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Hemşireler, sağlık bakım ortamlarında sıklıkla eleştirel düşünmelerini gerektiren karmaşık durumlarla karşı karşıya kalmaktadır. Hemşirelikte eleştirel düşünme becerisi, kaliteli bakım uygulamaları için gereken temel becerilerden biri olarak kabul edilmektedir. Hemşirelik öğrencilerine eleştirel düşünme becerilerinin kazandırılması, kaliteli bakım verebilecek hemşirelerin yetiştirilmesi açısından önemlidir. Eleştirel düşünme becerisi eğitim yolu ile kazandırılabilir ve geliştirilebilir. Ancak eleştirel düşünme becerisinin karmaşık yapısı, bu becerinin tek bir öğretim yöntemi aracılığıyla kazandırılmasını zorlaştırmakta, farklı ve yeni yaklaşımların da kullanımını zorunlu kılmaktadır.
