ab: Of the 893 individual authors of I Sentences i commentaries identified by Steven J. Livesey in his I Lombardus Electronicus i , Sorokina chose 49, almost all of whom wrote their commentaries between 1220 and 1340, the limits of her study. No review of Maria Sorokina's ambitious and learned two-volume study of celestial influences in commentaries on Peter Lombard's I Sentences i ca. 1220-ca. 1340 can do it full justice in a brief compass. The commentaries were divided into four Books that were further subdivided into distinctions: Book I had 48 distinctions; Book II had 44; Book III 40, and Book IV had 50.
