| Sumario: | The article informs that Thomas Hearne, the Oxford antiquary and publisher, was quick to appreciate the consequences of the Cottonian Library fire of 23 October 1731 in Great Britain. "The Battle of Maldon," which Hearne had printed as Appendix VII in his edition of John of Glastonbury's Chronicle in 1726. Of folios 57-62, nothing now remains, so that the transcript is indeed very valuable'. Hearne kept it among his papers, which were bequeathed to the Bodleian Library, Oxford, by Richard Rawlinson in 1755. |
