Este trabajo pretende estudiar el único "Discurso en alabanza a las mujeres" (el de la sesión cuadragésimo-octava), leído en uno de los cenáculos valencianos más importantes de finales del siglo XVI como fue la Academia de los Nocturnos de Valencia (1591–1594). Se trata de un alegato breve, plagado de referencias clásicas, que buscaba ofrecer suficientes argumentos para el muy probable encendido debate posterior. Este singular discurso buscó entrar muy tímidamente aún en ese todavía oscuro espacio de defensa de la mujer como concepto intelectual y literario. From the middle of the 15th century, various literary groups, collectively called "literary academies," appeared in Spain, due to the growing interest in the argumentative text preceding the literary debate that most of them generated. This work aims to study the "Discurso en alabanza a las mujeres" ("Speech in praise of women," read during the forty-eighth session), presented in one of the most important Valencian groups of the late sixteenth century, the Academia de los Nocturnos de Valencia (1591–1594). It is a brief plea, riddled with classical references, that sought to offer enough arguments for the very likely heated debate that followed.
