Taking as a starting point David Halperin's claim that "queer is by definition whatever is at odds with the normal, the legitimate, the dominant," this article explores what happens when Donald Trump meets antinormative queer theory, on the one hand, and the feminist resistance, on the other. I demonstrate that when queer is tightly tethered to an antinormative imperative, it takes an extremist like Trump to reveal its problematic implications. This article is a call to reread queer historically and politically, create theory that is grounded in activist work, and interpret what queer means by virtue of what activists do when they use this term.
