Sumario:Healthcare has moved into a person-centered model while approaching medical care through a whole-person approach. Through this development, several health care and allied health professionals have joined primary care health teams which has changed how treatment for patients is approached. This approach has become more prevalent the last few years, particularly with the addition of psychologists in primary care settings. Psychologists can provide many services that can benefit patients and physicians both. Integrating psychologists in the primary care setting can reduce physician stress, allow physicians to focus on physical symptoms, while psychologists can focus on behavioral and mental health concerns. Psychologists have special training in administering and scoring screeners and full psychological evaluations, as well as writing reports, and providing treatment. Integrating psychologists in the primary care setting can help expand and enhance services patients receive. This discussion focuses on the psychologist's role in the primary care setting, particularly around behavioral and psychological assessment.
