Twice within the past two months, H.L. Mencken, editor of "The American Mercury" and contributor to the Baltimore "Evening Sun," has proclaimed "The Journal of Social Forces," a University of North Carolina Press publication now beginning its third volume, the most significant periodical the South has ever seen. From the North Carolina Historical Commission has come volume one of "The North Carolina Historical Review," and during the most recent tour of the Carolina Playmakers a second series of "Folk Plays" written by the Playmakers has come from the press of Henry Holt and Company.
