| Sumario: | The article focuses on various aspects related to performance-analysis of the actor's score. By definition the underscore/subscore is located underneath the actor's visible material score. Unlike the score, it is not visible, perceptible, it cannot be equated with any concretely realised sign. The actor braces himself against a series of points which configure and underpin his performance. The subscore is an ensemble of situational factors and technical-artistic know-how on which the actor leans when performing his score. In the analysis of theatrical performance, the notion of subscore challenges many dogmas about the analysis of the visible, of action, of the function and meaning of signs.
