Literary publisher L J Veen has been nearly stripped of authors. Nieuw Amsterdam was set up by Marije Bertram and Hendrik de Leeuw, former directors of Amstel Publishers. Financial backing came from Derk Sauer who made his fortune with his magazine company Independent Media, which is based in Moscow.
