Sumario:The Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program, NIDCAP, was established to provide education and consultation in neurodevelopmental evaluations with healthcare professionals caring for infants and families in hospital settings. Systematic behavioral observation and assessment methodologies include the NIDCAP Observation and the Assessment of Preterm Infant Behavior, APIB. These instruments were designed to document the complexity of preterm and at-risk newborn infants' neurobehavioral functioning by focusing on the interplay of the infant's autonomic, motoric, state organizational, and attentional functioning. NIDCAP and APIB assessments provide the basis for estimating the infant's current behavioral functioning and goals, which form the basis for individualized recommendations to support the infant's developmental trajectory. The NIDCAP Nursery Program, NNP is a model and guide toward consistently well-integrated NIDCAP careThe NIDCAP Nursery Program offers educational and consultative support to healthcare organizations towards effective infant care in an individualized neuro-developmentally supportive, family-centered framework (https://nidcap.org).
