| Sumario: | The article presents information on the Abbey theater crisis. The Abbey's situation took an upturn in December with the news that Ireland's Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism was to put 2 million euro towards the Abbey's woes, and the appointment in February 2005 of Fiach MacConghail as the Abbey's next artistic leader is also being widely greeted as a positive step forward. The Centenary programme caused debate as soon as it was announced in November 2003: many commentators remarked on its conservatism: no new plays on the Abbey main stage; only two female writers represented; no plays in the Irish language. |
