Sumario:The article presents views of several publishers on picture books. Changes in the retail environment are affecting picture book output, with publishers planning fewer new titles and more paperbacks next year. Pat Shepherd, children's sales director at Random House Inc., said that there are two or three picture books that won't be published at all. The changes have not yet impacted on what booksellers see, said Fiona Nobel, children's book manager at Ottakar's PLC. Waterstone's Booksellers Ltd., which has slimmed its range of picture books to around 350 titles, has asked publishers to paperback more.
