| Sumario: | This article focuses on early exploitation of Southeast Asian mangroves. Debates around the classification and significance of lithic technology have been a prime focus of more than a century of archaeological investigation in Southeast Asia. Topics ranging from cultural evolution to cultural affiliation and adaptation to rainforest conditions have all stemmed from their analysis. By contrast, bone technology has received much less attention, a somewhat surprising fact given the cultural and behavioral importance ascribed to the appearance of this technology in the prehistoric record elsewhere in the world, particularly in Europe. |
