ab: This study aimed to examine the problematic internet use of secondary school students in terms of negative subjective well-being at school, gender, and grade level. The research was carried out with 433 students studying between the 5th and 7th grades in Erzurum city center. Happiness at School Inventory and Problematic Internet Addiction Scale was used in the study. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling, t-test for independent samples, and analysis of variance. The results revealed that there is a significant relationship between students' negative subjective well-being at school and problematic internet use. In addition, negative subjective well-being at school predicted problematic internet use positively. Also, in the present study, students' problematic internet use differed according to gender. Problematic internet usage rates of male students were found to be higher than female students. As a result of another finding, the levels of problematic internet use of the students attending the sixth and seventh grades were significantly higher than the students in the fifth grade. Considering all the information, in this study, it is seen that there is a relationship between negative subjective well-being at school and problematic internet use in secondary school students.
