| Sumario: | Interview data collected in a North Indian Community clearly reveal the relation of Social Stratification (religion, caste and class) to education. Broadly speaking, the incidence of literacy is more pronounced among Hindu respondents in relation to Muslim counterparts. The higher the caste and (or) class to which a person belonged, the more educated he tended to be. It is suggested that all educational developmental policies and programs should take note of the aspect of local stratification system which tend to influence the educational mobility. |
