| Sumario: | Our aim is to establish several lines of continuity between the European essay of Modern Age and the development of Catalan contemporary essay, with the appearance of Eugeni d'Ors' Glosari (1906) as the main milestone. Thus, we will analyse the formal models and literary referents available at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, with special attention to the French and German-based essayistic tradition, considering both Enlightenment and Romanticism. Then, we will focus on the material conditions in which these texts were written, published and read, above all with regard to the development of mass media and contemporary publishing industries, factors that facilitated the emergence of intellectuals as a social figure. Finally, we will examine how contemporary essay dialogues with its own tradition, both in linguistic and literary terms. El nostre objectiu és establir una sèrie de línies de continuïtat entre l'assaig europeu de l'edat moderna i el desenvolupament de l'assaig català contemporani, amb l'aparició del Glosari d'Eugeni d'Ors (1906) com a fita principal. Així, analitzarem els models formals i els referents literaris disponibles en el tombant dels segles xix i xx, amb una atenció especial a la tradició assagística de base francesa i alemanya, il·lustrada i romàntica. Tot seguit, ens centrarem en les condicions materials en què es van escriure, editar i llegir aquests textos, sobretot pel que fa al desenvolupament de la premsa i l'edició contemporània, factors que facilitaren l'emergència de la figura de l'intel·lectual. En darrer lloc, examinarem com l'assaig contemporani dialoga amb la tradició pròpia, tant en termes lingüístics com literaris. |
