Sumario:Noel Malcolm's book, "Forbidden Desire in Early Modern Europe: Male-Male Sexual Relations, 1400-1750," challenges the prevailing understanding of the emergence of homosexuality. Malcolm argues that there was a pan-Mediterranean model of male-male sexual relations, characterized by relationships between young adults and adolescents, which was tolerated to varying degrees. In contrast, northern Europe had a different model, with male-male sex occurring without hierarchies of age or sexual role. Malcolm's research sheds light on the history of homosexuality and offers a nuanced perspective on the subject.
