El artículo analiza cómo la religiosidad popular se convirtió en un factor de identidad en el interior rural de Uruguay, específicamente en el caso de Santa Teresita en Chamizo. A pesar del impulso secularizador en el país, la devoción a Santa Teresita generó un vínculo duradero entre la comunidad de Chamizo y la santa. Se destaca la importancia de la construcción de una capilla y la fundación de un colegio en la consolidación de esta identidad.
