        The article analyzes how popular religiosity became a factor of identity in rural Uruguay, specifically in the case of Santa Teresita in Chamizo. Despite the secularizing impulse in the country, devotion to Santa Teresita generated a lasting bond between the Chamizo community and the saint. The importance of building a chapel and founding a school in the consolidation of this identity is highlighted. Devotion to Santa Teresita spread nationally and internationally, strengthening the community's identity.
        El artículo analiza cómo la religiosidad popular se convirtió en un factor de identidad en el interior rural de Uruguay, específicamente en el caso de Santa Teresita en Chamizo. A pesar del impulso secularizador en el país, la devoción a Santa Teresita generó un vínculo duradero entre la comunidad de Chamizo y la santa. Se destaca la importancia de la construcción de una capilla y la fundación de un colegio en la consolidación de esta identidad. La devoción a Santa Teresita se extendió a nivel nacional e internacional, fortaleciendo la identidad de la comunidad.
