The AOD is an ultraright-wing group that targets marginalized communities such as Black women, migrants, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. The article emphasizes the challenges faced by activists and human rights defenders who speak out against racism and xenophobia, and it explores the historical context of right-wing violence in the country, including the Trujillo dictatorship and the 1937 Haitian Massacre. The article concludes by highlighting concerns about unchecked far-right violence and the need for government action. Additionally, it discusses the political history of the Dominican Republic, particularly during the presidencies of Balaguer and Abinader.
